Dad started working as a Gas Bar Attendant in Orillia, with Clark Motors, in 1964, and soon became very well like, and cared about, by everybody who knew him. Over the years, Clark Motors changed hands to Russell Pontiac Buick, and then became known as Patterson‘s Pontiac. However, there was never a change in Dad's position. Why?? Well, that was because, he was a people person, and he really enjoyed his position. His customers came from all around just to see him, and to have their vehicles filled with gas, windshields washed, and oil checked, from someone who they knew they could trust. If you were a lady, or an elderly person, Dad always took that extra time, to make sure their cars were in good shape before they left the lot, because he didn't want to have anyone break down if he could prevent it. My Dad, became a confidant to many, an ear for listening, and a shoulder to cry on for others, and most important he was a friend to everyone. He never forgot a name, nor to ask his friends (also known as) Customers, how things were going, and if there was anything he could do. Nor did he forget about what was happening in their lives, whether is be a wedding, illness, trips he always asked the next time he saw them. Dad always had a little story to
tell, and he had a smile that would light up the world!!!
